Databases available through the Secondary Library

Databases can be accessed online anywhere, but they require a login to access because they are paid for by ISOI.

This week we are learning about Questia, Worldbook and Newsbank.

The test for this will be on Wednesday next week.

School photo spreads

This week is dedicated to finalising the photo spread for your grade.

Find ALL of the student pictures on the server and place them in an appropriately named folder.

Choose the best photo of each student and put it in a sub folder named 'Best'.

Insert the students' photos into the template that your group selected in alphabetical order by first name and label the photos accurately.

Place your finished spreads in this folder on Drive.

School photo spreads with some Instagram style

Spend this week working on a template for a school photo spread for your chosen/assigned grade. Remember, the design has to be suitable for the largest class in your division, which is 24 students in Elementary and Middle School and 20 in High School.

Work on your templates individually. At this time, you do not need to put any photos in the spread but you do need to set up and copy the frames for those pictures.

We will finalise the style guide on Tuesday so that we are all working with the same palette for colour and font choices.

The templates are due at 4pm on Friday. You will place them in this folder on Google Drive.

Yearbook Theme

You have all worked hard on your Theme Packages. Well done to all of you.

Our theme for the 2015-16 ISOI Yearbook will be Instagram.

Google Search Results

In a very timely coincidence, I watched this video on TED Talks this morning. He talks about bias in Google's search results and gives some illustrations of this.

Well worth watching, considering we have been looking at this in class

The anatomy of Google

Today in class we looked at how the Google algorithm works to rank the results you see on Google.

Write a blog post listing and explaining what you learnt today.

Think about how this will affect the results you see and how this might affect your search habits.

Write a paragraph to record your thinking.

Yearbook Theme Package Deadline

It was good to see you and your parents on Friday, but it meant that we missed two of three lessons last week, with PSATs and PTCs.

In light of this, you will have all week to work on your yearbook theme packages with your group. It is important that it be ready to submit at the end of our last lesson this week.

You will be presenting your packages during our first lesson next week.
