Using the Yearbook Spread Rubric

Look at the Yearbook Spread Rubric and think about what a spread in the 10/10 column would look like.

Check out this Yearbook spread and consider what you would give as a grade in each category on the rubric. For each grade you need to be able to explain why you have chosen it.

Location, Location, Location

We are starting our unit on locating materials to help us learn. This unit is called Location, Location, Location.

You will have received an email with a link to the assignment sheet for the first part of this unit, which is all about finding stuff in the Secondary Library.

The great thing about this unit is that you can use the skills you learn in our library here, but also in any library you go to in the future, public or college.

Make sure you have the assignment sheet ready to hand for Wednesday's lesson.

Field Day spreads

Well done to those of you who followed the instructions left for Monday's class. I have updated your Edline with 50% of the total marks.

The grading will be done by you next class using the Yearbook Spread Rubric. This is the rubric that we will use for all the spreads in the Yearbook.

If you want to make sure you get an awesome grade, you can take another look at your .INDD document before our next lesson.

If you have not yet submitted a .INDD document to the Field Day Spreads folder, you can still do that, and the penalty for late work will be applied.

You may want to check that you  have uploaded a .INDD document rather than a .JPG of your spread. I want to see the .INDD.

Critical Reflection

You have set the criteria for a good presentation. Make sure you post those criteria on your blog.

Once you have a clear idea of what a good presentation looks like, you can critique your own performance. Watch the video of your performance and write a critical reflection of your performance with reference to your criteria. Post this on your blog.

It is important to make sure that your critique is balanced. Your presentations all had good aspects to them as well as areas to improve.

A critical reflection includes a plan for improving your performance the next time you give a presentation. Write a plan for improvement that specifically addresses the areas in your presentation technique that are flawed.

Finish your Field Day write up before Monday September 28th

Please make sure you have finalised your Field Day write up before you come to class on Monday September 28th.

On September 28th you must finish your Yearbook spread for Field Day before the end of the lesson and upload it as an .indd document into this folder. You will receive a formative grade for this.

Tuesday 15 September 2015

Field Day Write Up

As part of your Field Day spread you will need some text. Tonight for homework, write 100-150 words about Field Day in a Google Doc and share it with me.

This will be graded so make sure you have proof read it for grammar and spelling mistakes.

Monday 14 September 2015

Field Day Photo Selection

For homework tonight you need to select 10 photos from the Field Day photo folders to use in a spread. Once you have selected a photo to use, MAKE A COPY and put the copy in a folder on your own drive. Do not remove or change any of the pictures in the class Google Folders.

When you have chosen your 10 pictures, make a blog post with all the pictures and write a sentence or two for each one that explains why you chose it.

You will need this for the lesson on Tuesday.

Photography skills

Today we are investigating photography techniques in order to make sure we can take great pictures for the Yearbook. We are preparing for our first all-school event this Friday.

Before Friday you will need to book a slot with the camera to take pictures of Field Day activities. You can book your time with the camera through this Google Sheet.

Today, in pairs you will spend some time with Mr. Arthur to learn how to use the school camera. When you are not working with Mr. Arthur, you will be investigating photography techniques and your smartphone, if you have one.

Firstly,

Read this post about using your cellphone to take Yearbook pictures. Play with your own phone to see if you can get the right camera settings. Take some pictures.

Secondly,

Learn about the following photography techniques by looking them up online. Once you think you have a good idea about the techniques take some pictures while consciously using the individual techniques.

Rule of Thirds
Camera Angles (get down low, shoot straight up, kneel down, twist the camera, exaggerate features)
Framing the shot (photo composition)

Make sure you have some photos that are in the advised photo resolution that show examples of each of these photography techniques. When you have the pictures, write a blogpost detailing each of the techniques using your own photos to illustrate them.

This is due on Monday, September 14th.

Logical Fallacy Presentations

You will be presenting your 'speeches', in random order, on Tuesday, September 15th. Use the rubric and preparation sheet to help you plan your presentation.

You have been assigned a topic, you can find which topic you have been assigned here.

Your presentations will be recorded and we'll look at them to inform our work on presentation skills.

Homework for this weekend...

The written part of your Profiles is not yet of an acceptable quality. Make sure you spend time this weekend working on this so that on Monday we can finish this off and get it to your client, Ms. Fossum.

Remember that the first paragraph should be about ISOI and the teacher's experience and qualifications. The second paragraph can be about other interesting achievements.

ALL of the bullets should have some relevance to ISOI or their achievements as a teacher.

Make sure that all of the proper nouns have capital letters, there are no spelling errors or typos.

Let's make a product you'll be proud to show to your client.

Homework this weekend...

I know that many of you did not finish your blogpost in class today, and that's okay. It is not homework this weekend.

Use your time this weekend to work with your partner on the Copyright Summative Assessment Video Project. This video and blogpost is due by the beginning of class on Thursday.

Wednesday 2 September 2015

Copyright Summative Assessment

Today we will talk about the summative assessment for our Copyright unit. You will be making a video and using the work of others appropriately and legally. You can find the assignment sheet here.

Make sure you read and understand the rubric for this assessment. You can find the rubric here.

Tuesday 1 September 2015

Profiles for the WIN - 1st submission

Well done to everyone who got their jpegs exported and in the folder on Google Drive!

For homework, please post the latest version of your bullets and narratives on your blog. You do not need to include the picture of the teacher, just the text.

Once you have posted your work on your own blog, go and visit the blogs of TWO of your classmates and leave a comment on their work for them.

Logical Fallacy Notes

Today we looked at logical fallacies and made notes.

Your homework today is to finish the notes and to make sure you have a digital record of them that is readable. Your record could be on your blog or in your drive, but you need to make a blog post that links to the notes.
